Director of Sustainability & ESG

Our client, a dynamic organization in Hong Kong is seeking a dynamic and experienced Director of Sustainability & ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) to drive its sustainability vision and strategy. This leadership role involves developing, implementing, and managing sustainability and ESG initiatives, ensuring alignment with corporate goals, and fostering a culture of continuous improvement in sustainable operations. The position also requires overseeing compliance with local and global ESG regulations while strengthening the company’s position as a leader in sustainability.

Key Responsibilities

1. Sustainability and ESG Strategy Development

  • Lead the development and execution of long-term sustainability and ESG strategies, ensuring alignment with business objectives and regulatory requirements.
  • Collaborate with senior leadership and stakeholders to integrate ESG principles across all business functions.
  • Stay ahead of evolving local and global sustainability trends, regulations, and best practices to maintain a competitive edge.

2. Sustainable Operations and Impact

  • Oversee the implementation of sustainability initiatives aimed at reducing environmental impact and enhancing operational efficiency.
  • Define and monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) to track progress on environmental, social, and governance goals.
  • Drive initiatives for resource efficiency, waste reduction, energy conservation, and carbon footprint minimization.

3. Compliance and Risk Management

  • Ensure full compliance with relevant local and international sustainability laws, regulations, and reporting requirements.
  • Monitor industry standards, regulatory changes, and global ESG trends to ensure ongoing compliance.
  • Lead the preparation and management of ESG reports, effectively communicating the company’s sustainability performance and impact.

4. Leadership and Team Development

  • Lead and mentor a high-performing sustainability team, fostering a culture of accountability, innovation, and continuous learning.
  • Build cross-functional teams to implement sustainability initiatives across operations, supply chains, and product development.
  • Encourage collaboration across departments to embed sustainability into all aspects of the business.

5. Stakeholder Engagement and Education

  • Promote ESG awareness across the organization, embedding sustainability principles into company culture.
  • Provide training and resources to employees at all levels, ensuring widespread adoption of sustainability practices.
  • Engage with external stakeholders, including government agencies, regulatory bodies, NGOs, investors, and local communities, to strengthen the company’s ESG profile.

Qualifications and Skills

  • Extensive experience in sustainability, ESG, or related fields, with a proven leadership track record.
  • Strong background in managing sustainability and ESG programs in Hong Kong, with in-depth knowledge of local regulations and industry best practices.
  • Expertise in sustainability strategy, ESG frameworks (e.g., GRI, SASB, TCFD), and regulatory compliance.
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage and influence senior stakeholders.
  • Strategic thinker with strong problem-solving skills and the ability to execute complex sustainability initiatives.
