About the Role:

A growing team is looking for a Senior Ecologist with both technical skills and a deep respect for the living world to join their team in Hong Kong/UK. This is a role for someone who understands that effective ecological work requires not only data and analysis but also careful observation, long-term thinking, and an ability to see connections across landscapes and systems. In addition, the ideal candidate will have a passion for fostering a deep understanding of natural environments and their intricate relationships.

As Senior Ecologist, you will lead our efforts to understand, protect, and restore the ecosystems within our care. Specifically, you will be responsible for delivering high-quality ecological assessments, advising on biodiversity and habitat management, and ensuring that our projects are underpinned by sound science and an integrated understanding of nature. Moreover, you will work closely with a multidisciplinary team to ensure that ecological considerations are embedded into all stages of our projects.

Key Responsibilities:

  • You will conduct field-based ecological surveys across a variety of  habitats, drawing on your expertise in species identification and habitat classification.
  • Lead the preparation of ecological reports, which will include baseline assessments, protected species reports, impact assessments, and habitat management plans.
  • Provide strategic ecological input into land-use projects, conservation planning, restoration work, and environmental design.
  • Collaborate with land managers, conservation partners, planners, and community stakeholders to seamlessly integrate ecological considerations into decision-making.
  • Support biodiversity monitoring programmes and contribute to evidence-based reporting on ecological changes over time.
  • Mentor junior team members and play an active role in fostering a culture of scientific integrity, collaboration, and continuous learning.

Qualifications:

  • A degree in ecology, environmental science, conservation biology or a related field.
  • At least 2 years of relevant professional experience with a strong foundation in ecological fieldwork, reporting, and species/habitat assessment.
  • One or more protected species licences (e.g. bats, dormice, GCN) or progress towards obtaining them.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with experience preparing clear, accurate and well-structured reports.
  • A practical and solution-oriented approach, with a strong understanding of habitat management and restoration principles.
  • Experience in landscape-scale conservation, rewilding or nature recovery projects.
  • GIS and ecological data analysis skills.
  • Experience engaging with local communities, landowners or public bodies.
  • An interest in systems thinking, nature-based solutions or regenerative land use.

Why Join Us

This is a chance to work at the intersection of ecology, land stewardship and community. You’ll be joining a team committed to practical, science-based solutions for restoring the health of ecosystems — and to doing so with care, humility and a long-term view.

We offer flexible working arrangements, opportunities for professional development, and the chance to contribute meaningfully to landscape-scale ecological regeneration.
