Job Overview
We are seeking a dynamic Sustainability Communications Specialist to join our team in Hong Kong. In this role, you will develop and execute communications strategies that showcase the company’s sustainability efforts, ensuring alignment with Hong Kong’s environmental goals and regional sustainability trends. By collaborating with cross-functional teams, you will help drive impactful messaging that highlights our commitment to sustainability. The ideal candidate will have strong communication skills, an understanding of local environmental challenges, and a passion for sustainability initiatives.
Key Responsibilities
- Sustainability Messaging: Create clear, compelling messages around the company’s sustainability programs, ensuring alignment with Hong Kong’s environmental initiatives, including clean air policies, waste management, green building standards, and climate action efforts. This will involve tailoring communications to resonate with local audiences and stakeholders.
- Stakeholder Engagement: Collaborate with internal teams, government bodies, NGOs, and local communities to communicate the company’s sustainability achievements and programs, ensuring they resonate with Hong Kong’s diverse stakeholders.
- Content Creation and Distribution: Develop high-quality content for various platforms such as social media, press releases, sustainability reports, and corporate websites to communicate sustainability progress. Tailor content to suit Hong Kong’s bilingual (Cantonese and English) audience, ensuring accessibility and relevance.
- Media Relations: Build and maintain strong relationships with local and regional media outlets in Hong Kong. Secure media coverage for sustainability initiatives and respond to media inquiries related to environmental practices and sustainability strategies.
- Campaign Management: Led the development and execution of sustainability-focused campaigns in Hong Kong, including partnerships with local environmental organizations, public awareness campaigns, and corporate social responsibility (CSR) initiatives.
- Internal Communications: Collaborate with internal teams to ensure sustainability messages are effectively communicated to employees, encouraging participation in corporate sustainability programs and fostering a culture of environmental responsibility.
- Reporting and Analysis: Track and measure the success of communication initiatives, using metrics such as media coverage, audience engagement, and feedback to improve strategies and messaging. These insights will be used to refine approaches and ensure continued alignment with sustainability goals. Provide regular reports to senior management on the effectiveness of sustainability communications.
- Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work closely with the corporate sustainability team, marketing, and public relations departments to ensure alignment with broader company goals and enhance the overall sustainability narrative. This collaboration will ensure a unified and consistent message across all platforms.
Qualifications
- 3-5 years of experience in communications, public relations, or sustainability-related roles.
- Familiarity with sustainability issues and policies in Hong Kong, such as air quality management, renewable energy policies, and Hong Kong’s Climate Action Plan.
- Experience in content creation for a bilingual (Cantonese and English) audience is highly desirable.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills in English and Cantonese. Fluency in Mandarin is a plus.
- Ability to create clear and engaging content that explains complex sustainability concepts in a relatable way.
- Proven experience in using social media and other digital platforms to drive engagement on sustainability topics.
- Understanding of sustainability reporting frameworks (e.g., GRI, CDP) and environmental regulations in Hong Kong is beneficial.
