About the Role:
Our client is growing their team and is looking for a passionate and experienced Sustainable Agriculture Specialist to join their team in Hong Kong. This role will focus on driving sustainable agriculture initiatives. Specifically, the ideal candidate will have expertise in sustainable farming systems, urban agriculture, and environmental conservation, which will allow them to help shape the future of agriculture in Hong Kong. By leveraging these skills, the candidate will contribute to developing innovative solutions that support long-term sustainability in local farming practices.
Key Responsibilities:
- Advise and support in the adoption of sustainable practices, such as organic farming, soil health management, agroecology, and efficient water usage.
- In addition, lead initiatives to integrate agriculture into Hong Kong’s urban environments, focusing on innovative solutions like vertical farming, rooftop gardens, and community-based urban agriculture projects.
- Collaborate with government bodies, local agricultural organizations, NGOs, and community groups to advance sustainable agricultural policies and practices. Advocate for environmental policies that support local food production and sustainable land use.
- organize workshops and training sessions to educate farmers, local communities, and businesses on the benefits and implementation of sustainable agricultural methods.
- Conduct studies to identify innovative and practical solutions to enhance the sustainability of agriculture in Hong Kong. Investigate cutting-edge agricultural technologies, such as hydroponics, aquaponics, and renewable energy integration into farming systems.
- Collect data on agricultural sustainability efforts, track environmental impacts, and provide reports to stakeholders, helping to communicate progress and make data-driven decisions for future initiatives.
- Identify and secure funding opportunities from government programs, private investors, and international donors to support sustainable agriculture projects and initiatives.
Required Qualifications:
- At least 2 years of relevant experience in sustainable agriculture, environmental consulting, or a similar role.
- Strong knowledge of sustainable farming systems, urban agriculture, and climate change mitigation strategies.
- Understanding of Hong Kong’s agricultural landscape, including challenges such as limited land availability, high population density, and climate variability.
- Proficiency in data collection, analysis, and reporting, using tools like GIS, Excel, and other relevant software.
- Excellent communication and networking skills to engage with a broad range of stakeholders, including government agencies, NGOs, businesses, and local communities.
- Experience with urban agriculture projects in Hong Kong or other highly urbanized environments.
- Knowledge of local agricultural policies and sustainability certifications.
- Expertise in innovative technologies such as vertical farming, precision agriculture, or sustainable aquaculture.
- Experience in fundraising, grant writing, and project management for sustainability-focused initiatives.
Working Conditions:
- Travel to various field sites, farms, and urban agriculture locations across Hong Kong.
- Flexible working hours to accommodate project needs, including occasional evening or weekend events.
- Hybrid work environment with a balance of office work and field-based activities.
